"Thinking Outside the Box"
|
Through teaching the N.C. Essential Standards for the Visual Arts, my students are given opportunities to express their ideas visually. Teaching technical skills and ways to approach their subject expand the means in which my students can express their ideas. I want my students to be innovative and learn the critical thinking skills necessary in taking "new" or fresh approaches to a subject or to a specific design problem. Not all or even many of my students will choose to enter an art or design field, yet every profession (and even daily living) will demand innovation in order to meet the needs of tomorrow's problems. I also want my students to ENJOY my class and experience the creative process that I hope will foster a lifelong love, or at the very least, an appreciation for the arts. In teaching AP Art History, I also hope to inspire a love for the arts and have students see the direct relationship between art work and the historical and cultural context within which it was created.
